Spoon-billed Sandpiper: Breeding Season

Follow
Cornell Lab of Ornithology

Spoonbilled Sandpipers arrive in late May and early June on nesting grounds still gripped in ice and snow. Over the course of about two months, as the landscape transforms from white to brown to green, they court, nest and raise their young. This video portrait features the sites and sounds of the Spoonbilled Sandpiper and the land it inhabits through the brief summer season from arrival to the hatching of chicks.

Filmed by Gerrit Vyn during June and July, 2011 near Meinypilgyno, Chukotka, Russia.
