The BethuneCookman Inspirational Gospel Choir is a renowned ensemble celebrated for its soulstirring performances and rich musical heritage. Founded at BethuneCookman University in Daytona Beach, Florida in 1969, by Dr. Mary Mcleod Bethune’s grandson, Albert Bethune, Jr. The choir embodies the university’s commitment to excellence and spiritual upliftment, which faculty coordinator, Mr. Ervin Ross has helped foster through the years.
Led by a passionate director, Mr. Vertellis Kendrick, the choir’s performances are characterized by powerful harmonies, spirited rhythms, and heartfelt expressions of faith and joy. It’s open to all students who have a passion for singing in the choir, even if they need a little vocal guidance. Beyond the music, the choir serves as ambassadors for the university, sharing their message of hope and inspiration through performances at churches, schools, and community events nationwide. With a legacy spanning over 50 years, the BethuneCookman Inspirational Gospel Choir continues to inspire and uplift listeners with their powerful voices and unwavering dedication to spreading the message of love, unity, and faith through music. The Inspirational Gospel Choir lives by this motto: “I will bless the Lord at all times and his praise shall continually be in my mouth” Psalms 34:1
