Pitcher

Athletes are constantly looking for new strategies to gain a competitive advantage. For some, this means putting in additional hours at the gym or batting practice outside of their normal routine. However, some people are able to advance their position using dishonest means. There have always been people who cheat in baseball throughout its whole existence.
Gaylord Jackson Perry is a name commonly associated with the sport of baseball in the United States. Between 1962 and 1983, he was a righthanded pitcher in Major League Baseball for a total of eight different organizations. Perry had a successful baseball career spanning 22 years, compiling a record of 314 wins, 3,534 strikeouts, and an earned run average of 3.11. In 1991, which was his third and last year of eligibility, he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Perry was the first pitcher to win the Cy Young Award in both the American League and the National League. He won the award in the American League in 1972 while playing for the Cleveland Indians, and he won it in the National League in 1978 while playing for the San Diego Padres. Perry was a fivetime AllStar. Along with his brother Jim Perry, he holds the distinction of being a member of the sibling combination with the secondmost victories in the history of baseball. The only combination with more victories is that of the Niekro brothers, Phil and Joe, who threw knuckleballs. In 1982, while pitching for the Seattle Mariners, Perry became the 15th player in Major League Baseball history to join the exclusive 300win club.
