A very ancient breed originating from the Isle of Skye in the Hebrides group, which is located northwest of the coast of Scotl. This explains the name of the breed. It is believed that from this isl they were brought to Engl. The breed was first mentioned in the 16th century in the book On English Dogs, written by the scientist, Dr. John Caius. According to some reports, longhaired Spanish dogs were brought to the Isle of Skye in the 16th century, which were then crossed with local hunting terriers small burrowing dogs that were kept in Engl for hunting.
