SHORT MALTESE DESCRIPTION:
Even though the Maltese is best known for a beautiful coat, this dog’s body structure, facial expression, and overall carriage are essential components of the type. The expression is gentle yet alert. This is a vigorous dog, with a jaunty, smooth, flowing gait. The wellbuilt Maltese seems to float over the ground when trotting.

The Maltese is gentle, affectionate, intelligent, responsive and trusting. A good family dog, Maltese are lively, playful, vigorous, and they generally enjoys learning tricks. They can be snappy with raucous children. The petite build of the Maltese belies its fearless presence. Highly alert, the Maltese elicits a flurry of barking in response to unfamiliar noises.

If the Maltese is allowed to become the pack leader, it may develop behavior disorders and become anxious and stressful. This may also lead to unnecessary barking and snapping at strangers, other dogs and children. Additionally, it is not recommended a good pet for families with younger children. So love a Maltese all you want, just make sure to establish a firm and clear chain of command.

SHORT SHIH TZU DESCRIPTION:
The Shih Tzu is a small but sturdy dog with a lush, long, double hair coat. This breed's alert, confident, playful and courageous demeanor may be interpreted as stubborn and outspoken. In part, this may be due to its long history as a lap dog to nobles.

One of the more ancient breeds in existence, Shih Tzus are believed to have been bred by Tibetan lamas to be a tiny replica of a lion, which is associated with Buddhist mythology.

The spunky but sweet Shih Tzu is both a gentle lap dog and a vivacious companion. It has an upbeat attitude and loves to play and romp. It is affectionate to its family and good with children. It is surprisingly tough and does have a stubborn streak.

A good family dog and highly interactive, Shih Tzu usually adapt well to adults and children alike. Not especially suspicious of strangers, they still make an alert and consistent watchdog, barking heartily when people approach the house.
