Von Willebrand’s disease: this is a bleeding illness, and once again, many dog breeds are susceptible, including the Sheltie.

Collie Health Issues

Cataracts: this eye disease can be hereditary; ensure you ask the breeder to produce health clearances for the parent dogs before buying a puppy.

Autoimmune diseases: Allergies and other immune system illnesses can strike Collies at any age. Skin inflammation is common and can range from mild to severe. If left untreated, this can be pretty uncomfortable for your dog.

Collie eye anomaly (CEA): an inherited eye disease affecting the retina, choroid, and sclera. The condition can manifest in a mild form or can cause blindness. Collie puppies can inherit the disease if both parents carry the PRA gene. Unfortunately, there is no cure.

Familyfriendly and affectionate, both the Collie and Sheltie are ideal companion dogs. Shelties are the best bet if you lack living space or prefer a small dog. The Collie does cost more money, but they're also tremendously goodtempered and gentle dogs.
