1) Required: Fill out pink slip correctly. For a seller, take a top part to report online release of liability.

Smog check can be done by either seller or buyer but recommend a seller to do it a few days before a sale if haven't gotten smog done without the last 3 months..

2) Optional (highly recommended) Fill out 2 copies of "bill of sale" for a buyer and seller for paper works of the transaction and finance a car if application. Use this form REG 135 Bill of Sale.

Before you sell your car, if your car has not been smog in the last 3 months, you should do so before selling your car so transaction will go smoothly especially if your new buyer is getting a bank loan finance.

Clean the car or detail it well so it will be easier to get good price and sell quickly. Most real buyers love clean cars which give them more comfortable feeling. Avoid "CAR FLIPPER (float car title) and DEALERS as they will not probably fill out pink slip and can leave you with problems with release of liability.
