Follow along as I take you behind the scenes with John Majure, the public relations coordinator for the City, for an exclusive look at the marble floors, original woodwork, and the finely detailed second floor courtroom. This video is part of a 21Point walking tour of Downtown Biloxi, so don't miss out on experiencing the beauty of this historic landmark, Stop 19. Let's discover the beauty of OldWorld Architecture in the New World together! I will take you on several other of the 21 Points in this video. Here’s how this stop unfolded.
I love touring OldWorld Architecture in the New World. In a search of such structures in Mississippi, the Biloxi City Hall came to my attention. We parked across from Biloxi City Hall and proceeded to take exterior pictures, then ventured into the Neoclassical Revival Building. Now serving as City Hall, the former Biloxi Federal Building once housed the U.S. Post Office, courthouse, and customs house. The brick building is faced with a fine grayish white marble. The main façade is dominated by a grand hexastyle portico of a streamlined Corinthian order, supported on an arcade. This is where the big windows come into play and the reason you have got to watch this video. It is one of the five, fulllength tall windows behind the portico on the second floor that make this tour unforgettable. The arched motif is carried around the structure by arched windows and fanlights over the doors. A large Palladian window is the main feature of the north wall. #BiloxiCityHall #MississippiArchitecture #HistoricalTour discoverbiloxi.ms.us
