It's the Lunar New Year and what better way to celebrate the festivities than with a Dim Sum lunch! But there's one way to top that; and that's with a DIM SUM BUFFET!!!

We headed to the newly built Parq Casino to visit their Asian restaurant: 1886 Restaurant. For this festive occasion, not only were we enjoying their high end dim sum, but we did it buffet style! Certainly quite an enjoyable and exquisite offering of buffet items and a wide (and random) selection of dim sum that comes to your table. Please note you could also request specific dim sum offerings; but we went with the flow of anticipation and surprises.

Offerings were impressive indeed while there is a modest selection, all items were of the highest quality. A standard Won Ton Soup station? not here, their take on this was lobster wontons in a rich creamy lobster sauce! Amongst the other notable buffet items were the geoduck seafood congee, a amazing steamed sea bass, wild salmon wellington, and the list goes on....

Then we have the dim sum. All items served to us, while appearing quite ordinary, were prepared to perfection in taste and textures. We certainly had our share: Shrimp dumplings, sticky rice, taro puffs, scallop rice rolls, .... I can't list all that we had, but one item was a must try the sesame coated fried taro dessert, filled with an unctuous golden filling of salted yolk custard that just oozes out with you bite into it. An absolutely out of this world dessert.

At $60 per head, it's not something one would indulge on a regular basis, but it was certainly a worth while experience. Highly recommend. (If you are on the hunt for a similar type of buffet in the Vancouver area, you might want to try the Hotel Vancouver at their Notch 8 Restaurant also an amazing experience but with a western style theme. )
