For the next video in this bowl series I will make the scrolled top bowl. I use poplar for most of the bowl but laminated some walnut and aspen to experiment with wood in different orientations in the blank. My intention was to get face grain in the internal and external surfaces of the bowl and maybe get different colors between interal and external surfaces. I did get the face grain in the surface but cut at an angle because I did not allow for the angle that the rings are cut with. Still it gives an interesting pattern. The last cut landed almost exactly where I figured it to and where the laminated pieces ended in the blank, so I got two out of three of my goals. I will attempt again but it will be somewhat complicated laminating the wood at the angle of thecut. Scrolling the top of the bowl was probably the unusual cut I have ever made on a scroll saw but I made it work by switching to a spiral blade halfway through. For some reason my cuts were not very accurate on this day but I made the bowl look ok anyway.
