Scott Joplin (born November 24, 1868 in Marshall, died April 1, 1917 in New York) American composer and pianist, ragtime style popularizer. He became famous as the creator of the first AfricanAmerican opera A Guest of Honor. In 1908, his textbook The School of Ragtime Six Exercises for Piano was published. It is mainly associated with ragtime compositions: Maple Leaf Rag from 1899 and The Entertainer from 1902

Zasłynął jako twórca pierwszej opery afroamerykańskiej – A Guest of Honor. W 1908 r. zostaje opublikowany jego podręcznik The School of Ragtime Six Exercises for Piano. Kojarzony jest przede wszystkim z kompozycjami ragtime: Maple Leaf Rag z 1899 i The Entertainer z 1902
