In his history of the 4th Alabama Infantry, Adjutant Robert Thompson Coles recalled the march into Pennsylvania. Coles recounts the kindness of Gen. John Bell Hood, pristine fields of wheat and corn, and strict orders from Gen. Robert E. Lee not to pillage the enemy land. Here's Coles's recollection.
