Kids screaming spider spider and this time it's a nasty WhiteTailed spider that's making it's home in my Daughter's bed. These spiders can give a very painful bit and if your unlucky it's deadly. This spider appeared right at the Australian Winter Solstice. Strange time to find a spider in the house! I grabbed the Dyson DC59 thats proven to be a great spidercatcher before BUT this Dyson has a non Dyson battery and it has moments where it plays up. I empty the Dyson into the bath basin and the spider has some fun in the water. Spiders can live for long periods under water because they capture air around their body and legs. In the end I use a cheap bug spray Coles Multi and with a short spray the spider is soon dead. The WhiteTail Vs Redback spider is seen in Week 5 of the Deadly Spider tank study I did last Summer. It was nice to see how fearsome Gonzo was Vs the WhiteTailed Spider.

Whitetailed spiders are spiders native to southern and eastern Australia, and so named because of the whitish tips at the end of their abdomens. Body size is up to 18 mm, with legspan of 28 mm. Common species are Lampona cylindrata and Lampona murina. Both these species have been introduced to New Zealand. Whitetailed spiders are vagrant hunters that seek out and envenom prey rather than spinning a web to capture it; their preferred prey is other spiders.They live in gardens and inside houses, beneath bark and rocks, in leaf litter and are often found in the folds of clothes, towels and shoes. They do not build webs. Most active at night, they hunt for other spiders. Their favoured prey are the black house spider. Obviously they enjoy a nice warm bed during the Australian Winter. But this spiders luck ran out when it was found by my Daughter.
