The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department Homeless Outreach & Proactive Enforcement (HOPE) Team uses mobile applications to collect data about homeless individuals and encampments in the county. This information is then used to build a database of contacts that can then be shared with other county stakeholders to provide a unified solution to the homeless problem Through the use of GIS technology, the HOPE team is now able to provide realtime visualization tools, live statistics, and daily counts, giving them a better understanding of the changing dynamics of the homeless population. This data can then be overlaid with other data sets such as homeless services, available housing, and treatment facilities to help target outreach. These capabilities are now being shared with other police agencies in the county so that all are able to collaborate and share information both quickly and easily with each other and get the homeless the help they need.
