Salukis in the desert

The Saluki dog is a dog breed recognized by the FCI.
It is an orientaltype Persian greyhound with a muscular and lean build.

The Arabian Bedouins started breeding these dogs even before the Arabian horses were bred.

Originally, the Salukis were bred to hunt rabbits and gazelles in hot and sandy desert areas.

The origin of the word Saluki is the same as that of the word Sloughi, also an FCI recognized breed, meaning greyhound.

In the literature, the Saluki is referred to as a gift from Allah because, as a good hunter, it was able to contribute to the acquisition of food.
