Sabina Shoal: China Says “Patience is Limited,” The Philippines Sends Warships | From The Frontline
Sabina Shoal, an atoll in the Spratly Islands in the South China Sea has become a major flashpoint between China and the Philippines. Warships from the two countries have collided with each other over the Sabina Shoal at least 8 times this year. Most recently, a Chinese coast guard ship rammed into the Philippine ship Magbanua thrice. Beijing has accused Manila of violating its sovereignty, despite Sabina Shoal being a Filipino Island. Additionally, China uses its Subi Reef, Mischief Reef and Fiery Cross Reef to deploy warships near the Second Thomas Shoal, Sabina Shoal and Taiwan’s Taiping Island. After the recent incidents, the United States has pledged to deploy its warships in the region which would patrol alongside their Filipino counterparts. Japan too has accused China of aggression, after a Chinese Reconnaissance Y8 aircraft entered Japanese airspace for the first time ever.
