On May 5th, this WestJet Link Saab 340B encountered an unusual incident while attempting to land at the Calgary International Airport (YYC)! From what my friends and I gathered on the radio, they were not getting an indication that the right main gear was down. This caused the crew to perform a missed approach, and then a low flyby for the tower to inspect the situation. The tower even mentioned us spotters on the frequency, saying we could "get a good look with our cameras"! Luckily, the gear was indeed down and it was most likely that the lightbulb had burnt out in the cockpit. The aircraft made a safe landing and then was inspected by emergency vehicles before taxiing to the gate. Unfortunately, as these aircraft get older, mishaps like this will become more common, and by October 2024, WestJet will replace all their Pacific Coastal Saab 340 routes with their Encore Q400s.
