Rusty! Why you should change your coolant every 3 years!

It's important to change your coolant in your radiator every 3 years to avoid premature damage to your cooling system. Here's an example of excessive delayed service! Rusty!

We use a hose to flush the system 2 or 3 times.
Drain radiator, fill with water. Idle car with heater on until top hose is hot so that you know it's circulating properly. Let cool, drain and repeat until the fluid is nice and clear. Drain radiator and fill with Prestone 97%. Typically, a radiator only holds about half of the total coolant capacity so you get somewhere close to a 50% coolant water. Mix. Anywhere between 30% to 70% is sufficient.

Probably good to replace your radiator hoses every 10 years or so. And don't forget to check the heater hose on the back of the engine.

This is what we personally do. And no we don't care about the different coolant colors anymore because we feel using such a short coolant change interval should be providing full protection for the duration needed.

Sure your opinions and experiences in the comments about coolant types and intervals.
