Russia claimed to have shot down six USsupplied Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) launched by Ukraine on April 30. Officials in Russianannexed Crimea said some of the missiles were downed over the Black Sea peninsula.
The US admitted last week that it secretly shipped longrange missiles to Ukraine for use against Russian forces. The weapons, which reached Ukraine this month, were part of a $300m aid package approved by US President Joe Biden in March.
Whether to send the ATACMS missiles with a range up to 300 km was a subject of debate within the Biden administration for months.
