Rome SPQR - The Senate and People of Rome

Fenway Leo

SPQR, an abbreviation for "Senatus Populusque Romanus" ("The Senate and People of Rome"), is an emblematic phrase referring to the government of the Roman Republic. It appears on documents made public by an inscription in stone or metal, in dedications of monuments and public works, and on some Roman currency. The phrase can be found in speeches of Cicero and works of Livy.

I use SPQR to name this video, focusing more on the people (many are fellow tourists) than on the sites.

While the dictators, senators, orators, historians, gladiators and everyday people of the Roman Republic are long gone, their legacies carry on, Rome is timeless.
