Ripples The waves of transience
The melancholy lyrics are about the transience of beauty that comes with ageing. The ripples in the chorus symbolise this fading away. The lyric line “Blue girls come in every size” was also inspired by the poem “Blue Girls” by John Crowe Ransom. “Ripples” is still a balladlike cult song among prog fans today because it is a mixture of sentimental mood and artful musicality. For once, the song “Ripples” is not an original composition, but was penned by Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford. Originally recorded and released by progressive rock pioneers Genesis on their 1976 album “A Trick Of The Tail”.
