JUL 18, 2022: Mamatobe Candy is going to give birth for the last time any time now! She has become more restless in the last 24 hours, which is a sign that she's very close. We are going to move the 8 ravine + greenhouse kittens + teenager Cupcake into the Polka Dot room as soon as it is cleaned and disinfected. This will allow us to give Candy and Cookie a more appropriate birthing setup.

JUNE 18, 2022: Possible babydaddy Cookie has joined Candy, Cupcake and the eight ravine + greenhouse kittens!

JUNE 8, 2022: Same ravine + greenhouse kittens, new room! We switched rooms because these guys needed more space, and because we humans needed more space to do all the feedings and deal with the extreme perpetual messiness. It's intense. But also intensely adorable!

JUNE 3, 2022: Five orphaned kittens have joined us in this room, and Auntie Suzanne has taken the whole Ravine family home for the weekend for some intensive snuggle time! The Ravine kittens + Cupcake + mama will join the new kittens when they return on Monday. Expect massive kitteny chaos.

JUNE 2, 2022: WE TRAPPED MAMA!!!!!

MAY 17, 2022: Today we rescued three tiny kittens from a ravine.

A very compassionate family had been looking out for them, and became concerned for their safety when their feral mama moved them into an unsafe area.  

Happily, all three are now safe and doing well, and we were able to trap an older kitten at the same time.  Brooke is back out there now trying to trap mama so we can reunite her with her babies ASAP.

We are so grateful to the lovely people who had been feeding and sheltering this little family.  They kept them safe as long as possible, and recognized and asked for help when the situation became unsafe for the kittens.  Only 25% of kittens survive in these conditions, so this story would have had a sad ending without their kindness and intervention.

APR 6, 2022: Screech had her longawaited dental surgery to address her crippling stomatitis (painful autoimmune disease). She has a feeding tube to allow her mouth to heal while still allowing us to give her adequate nutrition and all of her medications. The next few days will likely be difficult, but this was a huge and necessary step toward a painfree life for Screech.

MAR 23, 2022: Pumpkin had her enucleation (eye removal) surgery and removal of her last remaining tooth (a canine tooth that was broken and painful) today woohoo!! She should be feeling much better very soon!

These cats were part of an incredible rescue mission made possible by a coalition of international rescue organizations. Their journey is the culmination of nearly six months of work by rescuers in Afghanistan to try to get animals to safety after they were unable to do so during the mass evacuations in August, when the Taliban took control of the country.
