Replacing the electrical box for the ceiling fan in the living room. The existing box was secured with only 2 relatively short nails, which were starting to pull out slightly from the beam, allowing the box to move around a bit. I had to cut away part of the drywall to access the rafters, then I removed the old box and reinstalled a new all metal side mount ceiling fan box, lagged into the ceiling with four 2" screws. To cover the mess in the ceiling, I will install a large medallion.

Sadly the majority of the electrical work done in this house before I bought it was of extremely subpar quality, much of which is probably not safe. I'm not surprised this was the way it was, and I'm glad I checked it. Now I can hang whatever heavy fans I want and not have to be concerned about the potential for it to fall.
