Art materials used in this Aging In Place: Visual Diary YouTube Channel.

*A fountain pen is not just any ordinary pen. It is a tool that allows the writer to have greater control over the flow of ink, resulting in smoother and more refined lines. Fountain pens come in various shapes, sizes, and materials, each with its own unique writing experience. And when paired with highquality ink, the result can be truly breathtaking. Whether you prefer a bold, black line or a pastel hue, the wide range of ink colors available is sure to inspire your writing and artwork.

*Watercolors offer a completely different level of artistic expression. The transparent and vibrant pigments blend and interact with each other, creating a depth and beauty that cannot be achieved with other media. When combined with the fluid lines of a fountain pen, the result are harmonious and stunning.

*Oil paint sketching is a technique in which artists use oil paints in the alla prima, wet into wet paint method to create quick sketches or studies of their subjects. This impressionist technique is often used as a preliminary step in creating a larger, more detailed painting, as it allows the artist to experiment with color, composition, and brushwork before committing to a final image, or, for those who, as Ryn does, prefer the freshness of Impressionism, the artwork may standalone as the original finished oil painting..

Oil paint sketching typically involves using loose brushstrokes to capture the essence of the subject, rather than trying to create a highly detailed or realistic image. The resulting sketches can be quite expressive and used by artists to explore new ideas and techniques.

While oil paint sketching can be done on a variety of surfaces, including canvas and paper, it is most commonly done on small panels or boards that can be easily transported and stored. This makes it a popular technique for plein air painting, or painting outdoors on location, as well as for working in a studio or workshop setting.

*Experienced, awardwinning, nature artist, Ryn, formerly of Buninyong Gallery, journals in sketchbooks with Line and Wash predominately using fountain pen and ink line & watercolour wash by artist. Line and wash artworks may be impressionistic and developed further with Sofft tool washes of extrasoft pastel PanPastels or other mixed mediums such as gouache, aquarelle (watercolor) or coloured pencils, or graphite pencils, in a direct quick sketching technique that is perfect for delicate portraiture and florals and atmospheric, aerial perspective in landscapes.

Ryn’s aim is to share her extensive experience and knowhow with you, including motivation, art business skills, perspective drawing, composition, colour harmony and mixing, light and shade, and the integrity of using quality materials if you plan to sell your work, and to learn from others without copying them. We encourage you to do original artworks.
