If you want to see a video where my perfectly trained rat walks beside me like a dog, you've come to the wrong place!! This is Rattie Nonnie's first day on a leash outside. She's had a couple of inside tryon sessions and nothing more. This is my quest to teach her to get outside with me.

In this video, Nonnie, a female fancy rat, is seven monthsold and is pretty cuddly. She is energetic and small.

I purchased this rat harness on Etsy, however, the shop has since closed.

Nonnie crossed the Rainbow Bridge on June 1, 2017. She was two years and seven months old and was a wonderful friend. Nonnie was a friend who would ride in my hooded sweatshirt on short trips, loved to meet new people, and would sleep under the blankets at my feet when I took a nap.

Nonnie struggled with chronic lung disease from mycoplasma, a common bacterial lung infection in pet rats, which cannot be cured and is typically transmitted from mother rat to her babies. Nonnie's sister had her first respiratory infection at two months old. Nonnie was lucky and did not become symptomatic until she was a year old. Nonnie went to the vet almost monthly after she was one yearold and as she aged, her visits became more frequent, up to three times per month in the end.

Please consider your budget for veterinary care if you are considering pet rats. Rats are cursed with many common illnesses and will need regular vet care if you want your friend to stay with you for their full life expectancy.
