Awesome Restorations

Rare Mechanical toy Restoration from mid1950’s. It is a cute teddy bear on a rusty crank wind up scooter. The engine is dead so I will repair the engine, fix the scooter and restore the teddy bear so he looks nice and clean again.

ABOUT THE MECHANICAL TOY SCOOTER
I bought this old toy from a barn sale here in Sweden a few years ago. He was just standing there old and dusty looking cute. I just knew directly that I had to fix him. The last couple of years it has been standing here in my garage and gathered more rust and dust. Now it is time to restore this cute mechanical toy.

ABOUT THIS TOY RESTORATION
I started by disassembling the wheels and then I carefully detached the cute teddy bear from the little scooter. Then I continued with the scooter frame and the more mechanical parts as the engine/gearbox. It was quite easy only 3 rivets, 6 metal flaps and two pins that was all holding it together.

I sandblasted the bigger metal parts and gave them some good layer of spray paint. The engine room got white color and the scooter frame parts were painted in baby blue.
I cleaned all the small parts (mostly gears from the engine) in my vibrating tumbler and gave them a good polishing job afterwards.

I also restored the cute teddy bear by giving him a thorough wash in my drilled powered mini washing machine and drying him afterwards with my wife’s hairdryer.

The scooter came with only one wheel. So I had to produce e new wheel on my lathe. The original wheel is about 80 years old and made of hard plastic so unfortunately I could not recreate the exact same look/gloss on the wheel with my modern soft lathe acryl rod.

I put it all together again nice and easy and gave the engine/gearbox a drop of oil on all the gears and moving parts. The mechanical part came out very strong. The engine was almost too strong when I tested it. You can se this in the end of the video.

I think that this restoration video turned out very good. The mechanical part came out very strong. And the teddy bear was happy about he’s restored scooter.
