In this natural building tour, we visit Crestone, Colorado to take a look at Paul Shippee's rammed earth strawbale home. By utilizing passive and active solar technology, Paul's home and hot water system is able to be heating by the sun yearround. Rammed earth is a durable and efficient building material with a high thermal mass which makes it great for heat storage. On the other hand, strawbale is highly insulative so when this heat rises the second story of Paul's home is able to retain the temperature!
