The highlight for me of our South African safari trip was meeting the magnificent Rambo and Rachel African elephants, both 22 years old and rescued from being culled as a family at age 2 in Zimbabwe when the population was getting too large for the territory and food supply in which they lived.

African elephants are huge in comparison to Asian elephants which was made clear to me when I saw myself standing underneath Rambo’s trunk. My entire body wasn’t even as tall as Rambo’s ears were in length standing with him.

Having Rambo open his mouth and smearing food deep inside on his tongue was the most thrilling part of meeting him. Handlers said that these elephants with no remember us if we were to return one year later.

Since our return to the United States I have been dreaming about spending more time in the bush with two mammoths Rambo and Rachel.

I can’t believe that they are on endangered species list. And cannot fathom anyone who would want to kill these magnificent animals for their tusks.

By supporting rescue organizations like this one that protects Rambo and Rachel they can be protected from poachers, Educate young children about the importance of preserving the wildlife in their country Through tourism rather than killing.
