The 2025 Ram 1500's are coming with the Stellantis 3L inline 6 TwinTurbo charged Hurricane engine and I Highlight the pros and the Cons of leaving behind the Iconic 5.7L Hemi. I discuss the Benefits of the smaller displacement 3L Hurricane engine like better towing, more power, better fuel economy (MPG) and less emissions. Lastly I talk about some Negative aspects of this new twin turbo charged engine in the ram 1500 truck platform as a Heavy duty mechanic.

The first benefit of this inline 6 twin turbo charged engine and what I actually really like as a heavy duty mechanic is that RAM went with an inline6 engine design. I think this type of engine design is highly advantageous for pick up trucks because it allows for great torque generation with a naturally long stroke.

an inline6 engine design is also wonderfully naturally balanced and leads to very nice linear power delivery. it is also much simpler then a v6 deisgn so I'm really happy to see ram go this route.

the second benefit is towing and power, this hurricane 3L inline 6 engine with its turbos will give this ram 1500 so much more power and ideally lead to much better towing and power.

the third benefit is the lower emissions going to be produced as well as the lower fuel economy especially around town with the smaller displacement.

on the flip side the first con or disadvantage of this inline 6 hurricane engine is the sound. you can't beat the sound of the 5.7L hemi and I'm going to miss it.

the second disadvantage is simplicity, I think any turbo charged engine is going to be much more complex then a Naturally aspirated V8 like the 5.7L hemi and this added complexity could lead to worse reliability and longevity. especially with the price of trucks these days. buyers want to make sure they are getting a quality product and engine.

the third disadvantage was a little shocking to me and that is max towing capacity has taken a large hit with these smaller 3L turbo charged engines in comparison to the 5.7L hemi. the High output version of the 3L hurricane engine is slotted to tow 2,000lbs less weight then the older v8 hemi which does not make much sense to me.

let me know what you guys think!
