Radio 101 | A Solar Eclipse on AM Radio From Mandeville LA

Follow
DX Central

Watch as the solar eclipse of April 8, 2024 influences the propagation of radio signals on the AM radio band.

While not in the path of totality (Mandeville saw maximum of 83% coverage) there was still plenty of influence as the sun's radiation was reduced by the blockage of the moon, thereby changing the way the ionosphere interacts with AM radio signals.

You can learn about this process in our Radio 101 video about the impacts of solar eclipses on AM radio signals:    • Radio 101 | How will the solar eclips...

Radio gear used during reception was:
KiwiSDR v2 http://kiwisdr.com/
Homebuilt 25' x 72' elevated KAZ antenna, @ 330° and fed with a Wellbrook FLG100LN amplifier/transformer (no longer in production).

This video footage comes from our livestream of the Eclipse event. You can watch our stream in its entirety (and normal speed) here: https://youtube.com/live/XFZ31xN7oxw?...
