Hello! Steve here, and welcome to another video from Granite & Marble Specialties on quartz vs. granite countertops. Quartz is a manmade material, roughly 93% ground quartz with the remainder being epoxies, binders, fillers, and colors. This makes quartz a very strong material that doesn't need to be sealed as it's nonporous and stain resistant. Quartz is appropriate for more modern kitchens, especially with the wide range of monochromatic quartz available from Granite and Marble Specialties. Finally, quartz seams perfectly, making it perfect for large, complicated countertop designs or blending with other materials.

Granite, on the other hand, comes directly from the Earth we cut every slab to fit the project. You'll also find that you can get much larger sheets of granite than quartz. This can make a big difference in your project, especially considering whether it will be completed using one slab or two. Due to the large slab size, many of our customers prefer granite over quartz for large kitchen islands.

One big difference between quartz and granite is burning. While granite can withstand heat from a hot pan for a few minutes, quartz can burn under the same stress. Fortunately, Granite & Marble Specialties can simply buff out any damage (including chips from falling objects) on site.
