Proto Tech Tip - Conductivity Tips for Custom Enclosures

Follow
Protocase Inc

Every week, Team Protocase is bringing you a Proto Tech Tip video, where we'll give an informative look at a particular aspect of sheet metal fabrication and CNC Machining.

This week, Cody is back to give you some tips about conductivity when it comes to designing your next custom sheet metal enclosure.

Conductivity is the ability for material to allow current to flow through it. For electronic enclosure design, conductivity can be crucial, depending on the components housed within the enclosure and your organization’s specific requirements. So, when it comes to creating conductive sections within your enclosure, there are a few key things to keep in mind.

Important note: At the 1:39 mark, Cody specifies that both powdercoat and anodizing are nonconductive. At 4:00, when explaining the anodizing process, we should have been extraspecific to say "in turn increases the aluminum's durability while also allowing for electrical conductivity, if masking is used."
