This animation illustrates a posterior lumbar discectomy and fusion of L4S1. Pedicle screws are placed at L4, L5 and S1. After removing the spinous processes and the lamina at L45 and L5S1, disc material is excised and the end plates are scraped in preparation. After the cages are impacted into the disc spaces, a burr is used to decorticate L4S1. To complete the fusion of L4S1, pedicle screws are connected with rods and bone graft is placed.
