Silvuddy's Notes:

Kanto: The original boss music! This theme is used for every Pokémon League official, including Elite Four. The Johtobased games, like the Wild Pokémon and Trainer themes, each include an arrangement of this theme. The remakes in particular heavily expand the arrangement where the GSC version was truncated.

Johto: This one is quite a bit more intimidating than the Kanto version, especially the HGSS one. Like the originals, this theme is also used for the Elite Four in the Johto storylines.

Hoenn: This Gym Leader theme is in the camp of more triumphant themes; Kanto meets in the middle of this and Johto in terms of balancing "heroism" and menace. The PWT version in particular is just super fun with it's DnB style drum pattern.

Sinnoh: This theme actually just repeats the same idea twice, though the second occurrence is ever so slightly altered to keep things interesting. The PWT remix is essentially just an improved version of the original in my opinion, though the BDSP remake version's style is a bit more faithful. The theme when fighting Clan Wardens and Leaders (as well as Commander Kamado) in Legends: Arceus is an arrangement of this theme; maybe the Wardens are the origin of the Gym Leaders we know today!

Unova: This follows suit with the Hoenn Gym Leader theme of clearly sounding like a fun challenge to overcome, rather than intimidating boss music. There are two versions, one for each pair of Unova games, and each has its own arrangement of a "final round" dynamic music shift.

Kalos: X and Y went a completely new direction with the Gym Leader music, opting for a subtle electronic track rather than an inyourface theme like the others. Another fun fact, this theme plays during your battle with AZ after the credits! Korrina also gets her own remix of the track when battling her for the right to Mega Evolution.

Alola: Sun and Moon do not feature a Gym Challenge, instead having the Island Challenge. While the Totem Pokémon are the true bosses of the challenge, the Kahunas are the officiators, and as such are the ones most comparable to Gym Leaders. The Totem Pokémon theme is also a remix of the Wild Pokémon theme, so I've included it along with the rest of those instead.

Galar: Sword and Shield introduced constant dynamic changes during Gym battles. There's also a remix which plays when the Gym Leaders are rematched in the Pokémon League Finals as well as the Galarian Star Tournament, also with dynamic changes. Piers gets his own battle theme for his Gym Battle, due to the fact that he also serves as this game's villainous team leader.

Paldea: Like Sword and Shield, Scarlet and Violet feature a dynamically changing Gym Leader battle theme, increasing in intensity with every next Pokémon, though no longer in the XY/SwSh EDM style (however, a chant much like SwSh's final round does return). The "Remaining Pokémon" phase applies to any third and/or penultimate Pokémon meaning the "Next Pokémon" phase is skipped if the Leader only has 3 Pokémon.
