The PixieBob breed is reported to have originated in 1985 with an accidental litter of a bobcat and a barn cat. Carol Ann Brewer had the barn cat, and she named a female kitten Pixie after it. Pixie became the breed's founding mother. While there is no concrete evidence that Pixie's father was a wildcat, breeders largely assume and accept this.

With his gray fur coat as solemn as a monk's robes, it's little surprise that the Chartreux was connected with the Carthusian order in France. The quiet mousers would have been ideal companions for members of the isolated, silent order. It's a lovely legend, but there's no proof that the Carthusians retained the cats.
