1995 Honda Civic DX Restoration…

I intended for this EG Civic to be a daily driver / beater car to keep the miles off my STi. At the time I was driving roughly 100 miles a day to and from work. Long story short the STi was sold and the Civic turned into a project car.... I can't leave well enough alone.

The car started off life as a 1995 DX automatic. The car was a very clean, rust free and unmolested. Shortly after I bought the EG, I found a great deal on a 95 EX coupe with a manual tranny. My original plan was to swap the engine, transmission and power accessories from the coupe to the EG. Then the parts off the hatch would go onto the coupe. After 3 weeks of ownership the EX coupe was totaled by a head on collision with a drunk driver. Luckily no injuries occurred and everything I needed on the EX Coupe was undamaged. So I bought it back from insurance and used it as a parts car for my build (manual engine mount, shift base, pedals, wires were scavanged for the conversions).

I wanted to build this car to a Restomod style, no crazy shaved bays, or kswap. I wanted to keep it looking like a car that you could have purchased from the factory. And I wanted the quality of work to look as good or better than anything the factory would do. I wanted to upgrade the car with as many factory parts from other cars as possible. I also wanted to retain all the factory amenities, AC, power steering etc. I did perform a few modifications to the body. I installed sedan rear door handles that do not have the lock cylinders in them. I shaved the lock cylinder off the rear hatch and also shaved the antenna on the A pillar along with painting the body moldings body color.

I was able to dissect the wire harness from the EX coupe, removing the full circuits for the power windows, power folding mirrors, power door locks, and cruise control. I then spliced those items into the factory DX wire harness in OEM fashion. The interior was kept relatively stock, while the drivetrain was kept looking OEMish, but heavily improved.
