Philippines has accused Beijing of violating an antiwiretapping law over an alleged phone chat between a Chinese diplomat and a Filipino navy officer. Beijing claimed the recording showed Manila had agreed to a “new model” involving operation protocols in South China Sea’s Second Thomas Shoal. Meanwhile, Philippine defence secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jnr said the audio recording had violated the country’s antiwiretapping law. Under the law, violators face imprisonment for up to six years and/or a fine of up to $100. He also said operational security measures would be strengthened due to “disinformation, malign influence and undesirable actions of agents of foreign governments”. Watch the video to find out more.
