Philippines Cancelled Megaprojects Update

The Philippine Infradev Holdings (INFRA) is seeking to renegotiate the terms of the $3.7 billion Makati City Subway Project with Mayor Abby Binay.

INFRA claimed that the subway’s construction has been derailed by a recent Supreme Court order which declared some barangays that used to belong to Makati were now under the jurisdiction of Taguig City.

The depot and a few stations of the Makati City subway system will be in the affected areas. Also, the alignment of the subway will no longer be feasible.

The subway project has two stations in the affected areas – University of Makati in West Rembo and the Ospital ng Makati in Barangay Pembo.


The $3.5billion Makati subway project could be derailed as the alignment of the underground railroad "will no longer be feasible" after the Supreme Court ruled that several barangays should be under the jurisdiction of Taguig City.


Philippine Infradev Holdings Inc., the lead private sector proponent, said the depot and a few stations of the project were designed to be established in the affected areas.The three parts seen to be affected are the following: the depot in Barangay Cembo, and the planned stations in the University of Makati and Ospital ng Makati in West Rembo and Pembo, respectively.

July 2019, Infradev and the Makati City government inked a joint venture deal for the massive intercity subway project.

The subway project is envisioned to have 10 stops, connecting key areas such as Ayala Avenue, Makati City Hall, Poblacion Heritage Site, University of Makati, and Ospital ng Makati.

Other Cancelled Megaprojects are Pasay Monorail Project,DDT Skytower etc.
