On a recent episode of the Peter Crouch Podcast, a fan wrote in and claimed that Crouch was responsible for Bolton's relegation and continued absence in the top flight.

In 2011, playing for Stoke at the time, Crouch was fouled by the goalkeeper after having his initial shot saved.

Johnathon Walters converted from the penalty spot and Stoke eventually drew 22 with Bolton. Bolton was consigned to relegation, 1 point away from safety and ending an 11 year run in the English top flight.
