Disney’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians (PJO) is a show of substance over style. Its worldbuilding, character arcs, and mystery plot are all very wellwritten, and present multiple key advantages over its inspiration and rival in Harry Potter. Despite this, it’s somewhat lacking in momenttomoment fun in the form of fight scenes, effects, tension, and humor. It’s a rare case of a modern franchise show with great writing and lackluster presentation rather than the other way around.
