Today’s video is in my opinion, everything you need to know before purchasing a Peloton… is it worth it? What is my experience? Do I recommend it? Are there alternatives? What are factors to consider before purchasing? I will address all of these questions and more in this video.

I’ve owned the Peloton for almost a year, since receiving it in January of 2020. Three weeks into owning it, I uploaded my first Peloton video and from there on out, my channel evolved into a fitness/lifestyle channel. I’ve since made update videos as well as covered topics in the indoor, athome fitness space.

Peloton Bike Options:
Original Bike $1,895
Bike+ $2,495

Tread+ $4,295
NEW Tread (release date 3/31/21 in US) $2,495

If you own a Peloton their membership is $39.99/mos; if you use an app with a nonPeloton bike it's $12.99/mos. $39/mos may seem pricey, but try to consider if you were to spend that on a gym membership elsewhere, where they are a minimum $50/mos. For those who are interested in a payment plan for their bikes, they have a $49/month for the original bike. If you were to combine that price with the $39/mos, that brings you to $88/mos, which could be considered the alternative for an outside gym plan.

Also, consider if you ride the bike an obtainable 4x per week, or 16 rides per month; and at a price of $34/class at Soul Cycle, that would have equated to $544/month. That is 14x more expensive than than Peloton’s membership of $39/month.

Referral Program

Peloton account holders may refer up to 12 members a year with their unique code shared to friends & family which will get them AND the recipient $100 worth of Peloton accessories for free. That’s up to $1,200 per year that you can receive AND give out. The only caveat is that it must be friends & family and not shared on a public site such as YouTube, Reddit, online forums, etc.

Bike Setup
Clipping in (13:40) and clipping out (14:16); takes a few times to get the hang of it
Seat height: top of hip, don’t want it too low/too high
Degree of float amount of lateral rotation: Slight float on cleats so when you pedal, your knee has some leeway left and ride (not 100% facing forward, unnatural and uncomfortable. Also helps with clipping in/out as you have to rotate your foot to do so.)

If you find the seat uncomfortable, padded bike shorts do exist but traditionally they’re reserved for road bikes (no judgement tho). I’d recommend a padded bike seat cover, option from Marque on Amazon for around $15. https://amzn.to/3iMHloV'>https://amzn.to/3iMHloV

Heart rate monitor (or Apple Watch) to track your progress, if you want to cast your metrics onto the bike screen, there’s a product that can do it for you. With Watchlink (https://watchlink.app.link/e/christin..., it links via bluetooth to your Apple Watch and peloton, displaying your heart rate onto the bike. Use code “ChristinaMarie” for 10% off your order.

A few other accessories to consider…
Tower fan you can point directly towards you during your ride
Laptop table for bike
Headphones (if you want a “surround sound” type experience)
