PD45011001 (EXP331) is the second Scenicruiser prototype Greyhound & GM created in 1953. It is the platform for which the remaining 1000 Scenicruisers were based(19541956). Due to a law at that time, this coach was originally built with an emergency exit door at the left rear. The law was changed prior to the production of all 1000 examples that would follow. This prototype was the only 4501 ever produced with an Edoor. After three years of engineering and testing, PD45011001 was delivered to Atlantic Greyhound Lines in July 1956 (fleet# A2267). The coach was used alongside all the other production Scenicruisers for the next twentyplus years. The Edoor was removed by Greyhound at some point, while the bus served in revenue service for them. I believe the door was removed in 1961/1962 when all remaining 4501s were sent in batches to MarmonHerrington, in Indianapolis, IN for complete overhauls. I bought the coach in 2008, and have been reproducing, and collecting rare parts since for it's restoration. I began reinstalling the Edoor in the fall/winter 2015.
