The Patterdale Terrier is a working terrier originally bred to dispatch the red fox in the rocky terrain around England’s, Lake District. Today the Patterdale is a successful hunter of various quarry and excels at various canine sports, most notably dog agility and terrier racing. If you are considering a Patterdale Terrier as your next pet, here are five things you should know.

5. Don’t let the Patterdale’s size fool you. There is a whole lot of dog in this toy size terrier. The Patterdale’s abilities, drive, and gameness make these dogs solid terriers. If you’re not familiar with the energy and tenacity of Terrier breeds, you may want to think long and hard before choosing a Patterdale.

4. These dogs love to hunt, they will hunt in independently as well as in groups. The Patterdale Terrier is not for the faint of heart. Owners of this breed are often gifted small creatures from their loyal and devoted Patterdales. Leave a Patterdale alone long enough and he will find something to kill.
