When is the time for freedom? Is it ok to keep intelligent, oceangoing beings in small concrete tanks? Ingrid is a cetacean (whale) biologist, worldrenowned for her work with orca. She has researched, observed, photographed, surveyed, championed, lecturedon and rescued orca here in New Zealand and across our globe, from Antarctica to Alaska.

To help promote research, as well as provide platforms for conservation, Ingrid has founded cetaceanorientated nonprofit organisations at both national and international level.

“I am passionate about protecting marine mammals, particularly orca and about education for the public and inspiring them to make a difference themselves. The best thing that happened for me last year? I rescued a stranded orca and spent time freeswimming with them in the wild.” This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
