Part 1 of a special production highlighting Air National Guard operations in Antarctica. Operation Deep Freeze is a joint operation led by the 13th Air Force and provides logistical support to the National Science Foundation and their scientific research in Antarctica.

Part 1 reports on science in Antarctica and shows how the Air Force supports National Science Foundation by delivering supplies and personnel to Antarctica aboard a C17 that flies from Christchurch, New Zealand to the Ross Ice Shelf.
