The universe has been around for around 13.7 billion years, but it still contains many mysteries that astronomers are still trying to solve. There is no shortage of cosmic anomalies, ranging from dark energy to cosmic rays to the uniqueness of our own solar system. Our species has barely gotten past the moon of our own planet, and only two of our probes, Voyager 1 and 2, have even departed the solar system. Much of what we know about outer space has been put together from falling objects and telescopic views. Some events are so odd that it appears that the only explanation is one involving other living forms, but the majority are scientific wonders never before observed on our tiny rock. So, let's take a look at some space mysteries that have even baffled experts.
1. Zombie satellite
When it comes to exploring space and receiving essential services, satellites are indispensable. There are literally thousands of satellites, both active and decommissioned, orbiting the Earth at any given time. Some satellites are eliminated on reentry into Earth's atmosphere, while others might survive in orbit for years after they are no longer needed. These satellites are usually still in orbit because they experience some kind of failure during their operation, rendering them unable to be operated remotely. Because of this, their existence is typically forgotten. These wandering satellites are known as zombie satellites, although not all of them are completely broken, as a connection can sometimes be restored after they are rediscovered. Before we continue our discussion of these zombie satellites, let's travel back in time to the time of the Cold War.
