This week we’re metal detecting at an old 1840's farmhouse that Doug landed the permission to. Now a few days before the scheduled hunt Doug had to get a small surgery and he wasn't going to be able to make it, but he told me and Rich to go without him and make the best of it. Now with less people hunting that normally means less total finds so I asked Doug if he would rather we push this place back a week or two until he’s recovered but he insisted we go today because we already have other places lined up. Okay makes sense, so off Rich and I go and we hoped for the best being short handed. Well as luck would have it, not only did Rich and I each find LOADS of incredible old pieces, but of all the days and of all the houses we’ve detected we find the unthinkable, Doug’s ultimate white whale of finds and he’s not even there to see it. As thrilling as it was it was also regretful because we wished he would have been there to at least see it. We called him on that phone to tell him and he laughed about the irony and then asked his wife to drive him up so he can see it. While we were waiting for him to stop by we kept detecting and wouldn’t you know it, we found another one! It’s crazy how things can unfold and how the unexpected can happen at any minute. A absolutely remarkable double find only the wrong guy found them.
