Mark Occhilupo & Rob Machado are two of the greatest goofy footers to have ever taken to the ocean. One is all raw power & personality, the other fluid grace & humility.

Despite the differences in their approach, they’ve both captured the imaginations of generations of surfers around the globe.

In Episode 32 of the OccCast, the two sit down to chat about what it’s like to have kids that surf, discuss the legendary 1995 Pipe Masters, and explore what it feels like to unexpectedly drop off tour. In the words of Rob: “I’d just had a baby and lost my job and my sponsor and was just like, what on earth am I going to do?”

What followed next was one of the best things to ever happen to him as a surfer.
