NYC Food Tour! What to EAT in NYC in 48 Hours!

On our first trip to New York City, there are certain foods that we just have to try! PIZZA, Jewish deli sandwiches, hot dogs (from a cart), bagels, and cheesecake! I know, I know… it’s gonna be tough eating all of this delicious food!

First up is the pizza! And for this, we went to Greenwich Village. The first stop was John’s of Bleecker Street where we could not order by the slice so were forced to eat a whole pie! I mean, someone’s gotta do it :) It was great! This was a brick oven pizza and we ordered their special, the Sasso Pizza. But just for fun, we added sliced meatballs to one side just to change it up from the delicious cheesy special. And then just a block away was Bleecker Street Pizza. We were pretty full but luckily could order just a slice here. We had the Nona Maria, which is their specialty. Oh. My. God… this was the best pizza I have ever had in my life!!! Seriously lifechanging pizza here!

There are many Jewish deli’s in Manhattan but we had some inside input on where to go. First up was Sarge’s for the pastrami and corned beef on rye. This thing was piled so high we could barely fit it in our mouths!! And for a second try, we went to Junior’s for the brisket melt… which did we think was better??? While at Junior’s we had the New York Cheesecake, plain, no toppings, they are not needed! This was divine! I mean, I have had ‘New York Cheesecake’ a hundred times before, but never REAL New York Cheesecake if you know what I mean!

Needing a specific hotdog stand, Billy’s Hot Dogs at Central Park West and 93rd Street, we made the trek all the way to him… only to find he was not there. Luckily he was just one block over at a school street festival so we tracked him down and he gave us free hot dogs! Such a nice guy… and they were worth the walk!

Lastly, I needed a bagel. Nothing fancy, just a bagel. There are lots of bagel shops in the city but we were getting this on our last morning so couldn’t go too far. The nearest bagel shop to Times Square is in Rockefeller Center, which was cool to visit as well. Black Seed Bagels was a bit hard to find on a lower level, but we found it… and so did a crowd as it appears to be a popular spot. I ordered a cinnamon raisin bagel with cream cheese… and I see what the hype is all about!
