Being raised by my paternal grandparents, I had never really felt much of a close bond with my maternal grandparents. I would see them once a week (at most) when I was a child briefly and as I got older, those brief meetings became even more infrequent. Now that my grandfather is in hospital, I am finally bonding with him. At first I just mainly wanted to be there to support my mother through this difficult time but I really enjoy his company. Seeing him so vulnerable makes me feel protective over him. I also realise I'm too late but I cherish these moments with him. I realise if I don't visit him in hospital, I probably wouldn't regret too much but I definitely don't regret seeing him. In fact, I'm so thankful. I honestly didn't think I'll feel this way. Our time on earth is short so cherish your loved ones and family.
